Supply of 47 drilling & workover rigs to the Indian ONGC

2019 has been a successful year for Drillmec for many reasons; among these the high note was the acquisition of two contracts, in cooperation with the holding group MEIL, for the supply of 47 drilling & workover rigs to the Indian ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited), the largest oil company in the country and among the major ones worldwide.
Drillmec was selected for the high automation level reached in its drilling rigs solutions, both on hydraulic hoist rigs – 22 out of the 47 being supplied – and the conventional 1500hp and 2000 hp land rigs. The whole fleet will be equipped with a double cyber chair installed inside a double sized cabin: this arrangement will enable full redundancy and simultaneous control of the drilling equipment and the offline stand building systems.
This project is part of a long-term plan of the Indian government to renew and expand its current infrastructures and assets and increase its energy supply independence. Specifically, the purpose was to renew the existing longstanding fleet and increase the number of wells (and production) in the coming years.
The historical presence of Drillmec in the country with its API 4F certified facility was another  key parameter for Drillmec’s selection. In fact, the existence of the “Make in India” program, an initiative introduced by the Government of India to encourage companies to manufacture in India and incentivize investments in the manufacturing sector, was considered an element of mutual advantage for the Oil & Gas national industry and for the growth of the national competences.
The delivery of the rigs has started from Q4-2020 and will see the commissioning of the rigs in all the strategic states of the country (Assam included).
